Engineering research reimagines concrete floors to advance construction innovation

A new research project led by Nathan Brown, assistant professor of architectural engineering at Penn State, is working to prove how designers could incorporate structural acoustic-optimized concrete slabs in building designs, cutting costs, reducing materials and decreasing the environmental footprint… without compromising areas like acoustics or structural properties.

Applications open for high-performance building summer camp for college students

Applications are open for the inaugural High-Performance Building Summer Camp, an intensive three-week program that introduces participants to the design and construction principles of more sustainable, more efficient and healthier buildings. The day camp will take place from May 31 through June 17 in Pittsburgh, a city classified as a United Nations International Center of Excellence on High-Performance Building.

IST’s Dongwon Lee receives Fulbright Cyber Security Scholar Award

Dongwon Lee, professor of information sciences and technology, is the recipient of a 2022 Fulbright Cyber Security Scholar Award. Lee will complete his Fulbright fellowship in the psychology department at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom as part of his sabbatical leave during the 2022-23 academic year.
