The Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), the Office of the Vice President for Research (OSVPR) Interdisciplinary Research Institutes, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity will host a professional development event entitled “Initiative for Faculty Success and Equity Workshop” on Thursday, August 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. The free event will build upon knowledge and practical skills and offer information on how to better center equity and inclusion in the search and career development of Penn State faculty.

Since 2013 the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) has been working on the PA WalkWorks program, working with various partners to improve public health outcomes with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to increase physical activity. Initially, the program focused on developing walking routes and groups, eventually including 100 routes established in municipalities across the state.

Two summer research programs focused on engaging undergraduate students in climate science research and finding solutions to global warming will be concluding in a combined event that is free and open to the public.

When can you use those images or figures without permission? What permission is necessary for use of archival or museum materials? What's the relationship between copyright and academic honesty? Join Danielle Steinhart, copyright specialist, for an interactive workshop on these and other questions.
Municipal land development regulations can present barriers to the widespread use of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI), such as rain gardens, bioswales, naturalized stormwater basins, and tree trenches. GSI practices can improve water quality by incorporating nature-based practices that slow and infiltrate stormwater where it falls. This Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) presentation will summarize an auditing tool used to evaluate local development regulations to identify and overcome barriers to implementing GSI.
Penn State’s open access policy (AC02) applies to scholarly articles written by University researchers. In this workshop with Ana Enriquez, you will learn how to make your articles open and how to get a waiver of the policy if you do not wish to make an article open. Participants will have a chance to practice using the Researcher Metadata Database to deposit articles in ScholarSphere for open access.

This workshop by Ana Enriquez will provide a general overview of copyright law and give participants practice applying copyright law to the kinds of research- and course-related scenarios that come up at Penn State. This PennTAP webinar will cover funding opportunities for small to mid-sized companies throughout Pennsylvania. Improving energy efficiency and reducing energy-related costs can often require investment in new equipment, technology, or controls. Often, many companies are eligible to apply for funding to assist with improvement efforts. Eligibility of sites and projects, as well as project payback estimates, should be considered carefully.
Conventional housing construction is too costly and inflexible to meet many of our most urgent housing needs. Using shipping containers as the basis of housing design and construction has many advantages, but the most important benefits to communities come from the opportunity to produce housing units and housing elements at scale.
