Tieyuan Zhu is a geophysicist focused on advancing the resolution of geophysical data, including seismic and ground-penetrating radar (GPR), to study near-surface geology and address environmental and energy challenges such as geohazards and CO2 sequestration. His research interests include near-surface/critical zone seismology, fiber optics seismology, wave physics (seismic, GPR), CO2 sequestration/geothermal exploration, and geophysics and seismology.
Zhu is also the leader of the Environmental Geophysics Group (EGG) at Penn State, which is dedicated to improving the physical imaging of near-surface geology structure and its physical properties using quantitative geophysical methods (seismic and ground-penetrating radar).
