The noise and emissions that result from aviation activity affect human health and welfare as well as the climate. These impacts are constraining the growth of airports today and could present a constraint on the overall growth of the aviation industry in the future. Because the same vehicle is responsible for both noise and emissions, it is important to have a holistic view of aviation environmental impacts and to think broadly about how these impacts could be reduced through technology, operations, alternative fuels, and policy. The seminar will discuss ongoing efforts that are ongoing within the FAA to address the environmental challenges facing aviation. A focus of the discussion will be on efforts being undertaken across the U.S. government to decarbonize aviation by 2050.
