2023 Commonwealth Campuses Grant Writing Workshop

The objective of the workshop is to assist faculty members to develop their idea and plan for preparing a grant proposal to support their scholarly activity.  Faculty members are expected to prepare a concept paper (see below) and the workshop will be aimed at developing the concept, as well as providing tools and direction for preparing a successful grant proposal based on the concept.

Topics will include:

  • Finding opportunities in your area of expertise
  • Getting the most out of the sponsor’s request for proposal (RFP) document
  • The concept paper as an elevator speech
  • Concept paper drafting, individual feedback, review, and revision
  • Undergraduate researchers as an asset
  • Collaborating with other researchers
  • Penn State internal resources
  • Working with federal, state, foundation, and corporate sponsors
  • Field-specific opportunities and pitfalls

Faculty who attend will be required to submit research-focused concept papers in advance of the workshop and will receive feedback from reviewers during the in-person event.
