Thirteen graduate students honored with Alumni Association Dissertation Award

Thirteen graduate students received the Alumni Association Dissertation Award, one of the most prestigious awards given to doctoral candidates at the University. The award was made possible through a gift from the Penn State Alumni Association and provides funding and recognition to outstanding full-time research doctorate students who have passed their comprehensive examinations and have received approval of their dissertation topic.

Electrical engineering honors society chapter earns national recognition

Penn State’s Epsilon Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu, the student honors society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, was selected to receive the 2021-22 Outstanding Chapter Award.

Architecture doctoral student honored for urban stormwater runoff research

Rui Wang, an architecture doctoral candidate in the College of Arts and Architecture's Stuckeman School, has had her research, examining excessive stormwater runoff and the public’s perception on implementing green stormwater infrastructure in Chinese sponge cities, recognized with the Alumni Association Dissertation Award.

Temperature is stronger than light and flow as driver of oxygen in US rivers

With 40 years of data from 580 U.S. rivers, Penn State researchers used a deep learning model to find out if sunlight, temperature or stream flow is the main driver of dissolved oxygen concentrations. 

Broccoli consumption protects gut lining, reduces disease, in mice

Broccoli is known to be beneficial to our health. For example, research has shown that increased consumption of the cruciferous vegetable decreases incidences of cancer and type 2 diabetes. In a recent study, researchers at Penn State found that broccoli contains certain molecules that bind to a receptor within mice and help to protect the lining of the small intestine, thereby inhibiting the development of disease. The findings lend support to the idea that broccoli truly is a "superfood."
