Since 2001, the Penn State Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies, housed in the Larson Transportation Institute in the College of Engineering, has worked to reduce the environmental impact of dirt and gravel roads and undersized bridges and culverts. Most recently, the research center collaborated with the U.S. Forest Service to improve how stream crossings are replaced in Pennsylvania. The first few stream crossings designed with the new standards were recently completed.

Social media users probably won’t read beyond this headline, researchers say

In an analysis of more than 35 million public posts containing links that were shared billions of times on the social media platform between 2017 and 2020, the researchers at Penn State found that around 75% of the shares were made without the posters clicking the link first. Of these, political content from both ends of the spectrum was shared without clicking more often than politically neutral content.

Nittany AI Alliance fuels friends’ efforts to make an impact one yard at a time

Two best friends who met as undergrads at Penn State never knew how powerful their friendship could be until they joined together to form a Nittany AI Challenge team. With the continued support of the GeoEd Foundation and the Nittany AI Alliance they are developing Project Green Thumb, an application to help builders, homeowners, landscapers plant and maintain native, eco-friendly landscapes that support wildlife.
