Penn State community, public invited to Undergraduate Exhibition, April 14-16

The Penn State community and public are invited to attend the annual Undergraduate Exhibition for Research, Inquiry and Creative Activity. Virtual presentations of all exhibition submissions will be available from April 14-16, with an in-person session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, in Alumni Hall of the HUB-Robeson Center.

SSRI and CTSI award Penn State faculty fellowships

Four Penn State faculty members were recently named the inaugural Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) and Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) fellows for the 2025-26 academic year by SSRI and CTSI. SSRI and CTSI fellows will engage in work, together or individually, that aligns with the mission of SSRI or CTSI to support efforts to foster change in policies and practices towards a culture of inclusive excellence across Penn State.  

Great Valley students presented actionable insights at research exhibition

Six Penn State Great Valley students presented four research projects at the 2025 Graduate Exhibition, hosted by the Fox Graduate School. This event offered the students a professional development experience with opportunities to network and practice their communication skills as they explained their projects, the methods they used and the impact of their work in areas ranging from geographically targeted opioid interventions to affordable cybersecurity practices for nonprofit organizations. 

Nominations for John Roe Sustainability Impact Award accepted through April 18

Nominations are open through April 18 for the 2025 John Roe Sustainability Impact Award, which recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting environmental and social sustainability. Any faculty, staff, student or community member worldwide may nominate any Penn State student from any campus, and self-nominations are welcome.

Growing Impact: Indigenous communities and Amazon oil (Preview)

The Amazon, home to rich biodiversity and vital carbon-storing ecosystems, is also the ancestral land of Indigenous communities who are grappling with the devastating effects of oil extraction across Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. In response, they are working alongside researchers to map the environmental destruction and strengthen their efforts to hold oil companies accountable while fighting to protect their lands and preserve their cultural heritage.

Penn State Berks to host Earth Day event, tree planting, City Nature Challenge

Spring has sprung at Penn State Berks, and the college’s Sustainability Council will host its annual Earth Day celebration on Monday, April 21. Later that week, on April 23, the Sustainability Council will plant trees donated by PepsiCo in the student commuter parking lot. Then, Penn State Berks will host an event with Berks County's Parks and Recreation Department as part of the City Nature Challenge on Sunday, April 27.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC) has named Mary Ann Smith, lecturer of biology at Penn State Schuylkill, as a 2025 Campus Sustainability Champion. This prestigious award honors individuals in Pennsylvania’s higher education community who have made significant contributions to environmental, social and economic sustainability.

Penn State Scranton students are ‘planting the moon’ in research challenge

Penn State Scranton’s Associate Professor of Biology and Biology and Science Program Coordinator Megan Van Etten and five students are working to find out what crops will grow best in space as part of the "Plant the Moon Challenge." They will present their work at the campus’ Undergraduate Research Fair and Exhibition today (April 9) and submit their final report to the national challenge on April 13.
