3D Visualization and Analysis

Center for Quantitative Imaging (CQI) staff have extensive experience in processing and analyzing CT images to extract both quantitative and qualitative measurements and sample information. Measurements such as:

  • porosity
  • fracture measurement
  • particle size
  • material distribution

are just a few examples of data extracted and analyzed from scan data.

CQI is equipped with several image-processing workstations with access to Avizo, Dragonfly, MeshLab, and ImageJ for CQI staff use only. Penn State users can schedule time to access remote workstations equipped with ImageJ for data processing and visualization. Assistance with other image processing programs is also possible.

Please contact CQI staff for consultation and assistance with staining, mounting, and preservation of samples. Please complete the CQI sample request form and provide detailed information about the research question, sample size and materials, desired resolution, etc., as possible to allow lab staff to assist fully.

CQI offers multiple formats of sample data:

  • 8-bit and 16-bit tiff images
  • .stl files
  • .vol files

In addition, upon request, deliverables include 3D video rendering of sample and a “virtual tour” of the post processed data.
