Learn about the war's impact on trees, safety, and access, affecting the human psyche, production forestry, and the Kharkiv Region's forestry future. Support for Ukrainian forest users and managers is crucial.
Ukrainians have a deep connection to their forests, relying on them for timber and non-timber products and recreation. Forests in areas of Ukraine where ground combat occurred and have since been liberated are closed to the public as they are considered unsafe until cleared of landmines and UXO. Forests are behind agriculture in the order of priority for clearance. Yet, forest management and fire protection activities are continuing. The audience will hear first-hand stories from a forest user about pre- and post-war impacts on forest visits. They will also hear from a forest manager about the impacts of the conflict on operations, fire protection, facilities, and the long road to recovery.
