The GE v|tome|x L is a dual-tube system equipped with two X-ray tubes:
- A high-energy xs|300 d unipolar 300kV, 500W X-ray tube that uses a tungsten reflection system, which allows for high-resolution CT imaging of a range of object sizes and densities with a maximum feature detectability of 1 mm. The xs|300 d unipolar allows for the flexibility to conduct both low-energy, high-resolution scanning, and high energy scanning for large, dense objects
- An xs|180nf 180kV, 15W nanofocus X-ray tube that uses a transmission target system to achieve nanofocus with detail detectability in the sub-micron range, ~500 nm. The xs|180nf uses a diamond exit window that greatly enhances data quality compared to the more common beryllium windows. The nanofocus tube includes both tungsten and molybdenum target assemblies. Molybdenum targets optimize the X-ray spectrum at low acceleration voltages and enhance detectability of low density, soft materials like soft biological tissue.
Detector
The v|tome|x L 300 is equipped with a high-contrast GE DXR|250|HCD 4-megapixel (2048x2048) digital flat panel detector. This detector is mounted on a track and is automatically translated laterally to double the detector field. This so-called “virtual detector” effectively increases the available pixel field to 4096 wide by 2048 high. The increased pixel field allows a much larger projection image to be collected so that maximum resolutions for scanning increase to approximately 1/4000th the diameter of the object being scanned.
Detector Upgrade
Installation of a new GE DYN41|100 dynamic high contrast digital flat panel detector is scheduled for Spring 2024. This detector will replace the existing DXR250RT detector and will provide a temperature-stabilized, 4000 x 4000 pixel (16-megapixel) flat panel detector with 100um x 100um pixel size. This upgrade will provide 10x higher sensitivity, compared to existing detector capability by using a Csl with EnduranceTM technology scintillator. Frame rate on the DYN41|100 panel will allow for 3 frames per second (full resolution) and up to 5 frames per second (2000x2000 pixel region in the center of the detector). This detector has been specially developed for industrial x-ray imaging and CT applications due to the distortion free imaging technology and high dynamic range.
