Additive Manufacturing with Metallic Materials

Date and Time
Location
Guion S. Bluford Jr. Building at Innovation Park

CIMP-3D is offering an intensive 3-day hands-on practicum for industry on additive manufacturing (AM) of metallic materials at Penn State. The practicum will feature speakers and presentations each morning, followed by afternoon demonstrations and hands-on experiments using state-of-the-art AM technologies relevant for industrial applications. Participants will become familiar with all aspects of engineered AM components, including metallic material systems, design and optimization tools for AM, AM process modeling and simulation, process monitoring and sensing, and inspection and qualification techniques for additive manufacturing of metallic materials.

The workshop will start at 8:30am on Tuesday, July 30 and end by 4:30pm on Thursday, August 01.

Topics that will be covered during the practicum includes:

  • Introduction to Additive Manufacturing
  • Digital Workflow – CAD to AM Part
  • Materials for Additive Manufacturing
  • Powder Bed Fusion Processes for AM
  • Directed Energy Processes for AM
  • AM Process Modeling and Simulation
  • AM Process Monitoring and Sensing
  • Designing for Additive Manufacturing
  • Non-Destructive Inspection for AM
  • AM for Repair and Restoration

Location

The workshop will be conducted at the CIMP-3D Additive Manufacturing Demonstration Facility located in the Guion S. Bluford Jr. Building at Innovation Park at University Park, PA (www.cimp-3d.org). Lectures will be held across the street from CIMP-3D in the Technology Center at 200 Innovation Blvd.

The cost to participate is $3000 and includes copies of course materials and supplies for hands-on experiments. Lunch will also be provided each day along with morning and afternoon snack breaks.

Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.
