2024 Online Data Summit set for Feb. 28-29

The 2024 Penn State Data Summit from the Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research will inlcude two free half-day sessions from 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Feb. 28-29. This year's theme is “Illuminating Pathways to Insight and Action."

The Center for Agricultural Conservation Assistance Training, administered by Penn State Extension, has contracted with the infrastructure consulting firm Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. This partnership is aimed at boosting the conservation workforce’s capacity to implement best management practices, ultimately improving and protecting soil health and water quality in Pennsylvania.

Master Watershed Steward Art Gover earns award for natural resource education

With 36 years of experience at Penn State as a researcher and educator in weed and vegetation management, Art Gover specializes in handling invasive species in natural settings. Now retired, he continues to share his expertise as a volunteer with the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward program. Gover, based in Centre County, recently earned the 2023 Natural Resource Education Champion Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals.

Female sandhill crane is newest resident of aviary at Shaver’s Creek

A young sandhill crane named Jane is the newest animal ambassador at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. The crane, which came to the Klingsberg Aviary at Shaver’s Creek from a rescue center in Wisconsin, represents a major step toward diversifying the aviary from its origins as a raptor center, said Paige Sutherland, wildlife education program director.  

Penn State Sustainability to host environmental-oriented career webinar Jan. 25

On Thursday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Penn State Sustainability (SustainPSU) will be hosting a virtual career webinar aimed at offering beneficial tips and skills to students interested in pursuing sustainability and environmental-oriented internships and careers. The webinar is open to all Penn State students across all campuses.

3D Earth and Mineral Science Museum exhibit imagines life in time of dinosaurs

Kaitlyn Horisk, doctorate in geosciences, focused her studies to include science communication and museum sciences, and has spearheaded a new exhibit in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences’ Museum and Art Gallery. The exhibit, titled "Cretaceous Oceans and Climate," showcases life in the time of the dinosaurs.

Presidential Leadership Academy accepting applications from first-year students

Penn State’s Presidential Leadership Academy (PLA) has begun its yearly application process. A certificate program, the PLA annually selects 30 first-year students who aim to think, act and lead through experience. Three information sessions, two virtual and one in-person, are scheduled for interested students.
