Sheetz lowers price on Unleaded 88 to $2.99 a gallon during the dog days of summer

Sheetz is reducing the price on Unleaded 88 gas at its stores, this time to provide relief during the dog days of summer, the convenience store chain announced Thursday.

Customers will pay $2.99 a gallon for the Unleaded 88 at stores that offer it through the remainder of August, the company said.

Other stores, such as Rutter's in West Manchester Township, York County, is selling Unleaded 88 for $3.79 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

Vehicles manufactured in 2001 or newer are approved to use Unleaded 88, Daniel Ciolkosz, associate research professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn State University, has said. It is a fuel blend that includes 15% ethanol.

To find a Sheetz location that offers it, visit the company's mobile app or its website.

Earlier this summer, Sheetz dropped the price of gas to $1.776 a gallon for the Fourth of July. It resulted in long lines, and some locations even ran out of fuel.

Sheetz will be selling Unleaded 88 gasoline for $2.99 a gallon for the rest of August, according to the company.

Gas prices in Pennsylvania and Maryland

The average price of a regular gallon of gas in Pennsylvania is $3.89, according to the American Automobile Association. In Maryland, it's $3.77.

In both states, the price of a regular gallon of gas has risen 18 cents in the past month.

AAA recently warned that gas prices might keep fluctuating until mid-September or longer. It's because of the potential for hurricanes and a heat dome that is affecting Texas and the Midwest, spokesman Andrew Gross said in the release.
