Registration open for architectural lighting design summer camp

May 31, 2023

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering and Project CANDLE, which stands for Creating an Alliance to Nurture Design in Lighting Education, have joined up to host Camp CANDLE. The four-night overnight camp at University Park will take place July 4–7 for high school students interested in architectural lighting.

Students entering ninth through twelfth grades are invited to learn about how architectural lighting design can enhance the built environment and contribute to a sustainable future. Campers will learn from lighting experts on the latest LED lighting technology as they participate in hands-on projects, field trips and demonstrations.

At night, students will experience Penn State life by staying in dormitories, eating in dining halls and enjoying excursions like trips to the Berkey Creamery and viewing firework displays.

Students can learn more about the camp, which costs $400 per participant, and register online until June 16. Need-based financial assistance is available.

Project CANDLE is a partnership between Penn State and industry lighting professionals to develop a lighting curriculum, connect students to industry partners, and develop and expand the lighting profession.
