UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Provost Endorsement Program at Penn State, launched by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, has announced its spring and summer 2024 offerings.
The Provost Endorsement Program is a new initiative designed to advance faculty professional development. This program, integrating three key domains — Teaching and Outreach; Research, Scholarship and Creative Accomplishment; and Leadership and Service — offers a diverse range of endorsements tailored to enhance faculty capabilities and expertise. Each offering has distinct objectives and timelines and aims to foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation among faculty members. Faculty are encouraged to explore these opportunities and apply for endorsements that align with their professional growth goals.
Teaching and Outreach:
- "Embracing Teaching and Learning with Technology for New Faculty to Penn State” — Offers critical resources and support for faculty new to Penn State, enhancing their knowledge of essential teaching and learning technologies and connecting them with peers.
- "Foundations for Online Teaching Certificate" — A four-course online certificate program for faculty new to online teaching, focusing on essential competencies in online education, including various key topics and asynchronous learning components.
- "Inclusive and Equitable Teaching" — For experienced instructors, this program involves revising syllabi, reflecting on teaching practices using student feedback, and cultivating belonging in courses. It's self-paced, starting after January 8, 2024.
- "Teaching Online Program (TOP)" — An asynchronous online curriculum with three levels covering the introduction to online teaching, advanced topics, and refining online teaching practices.
Research, Scholarship and Creative Accomplishment:
- “Advanced Training in Translational Research — The Clinical and Translational Science Institute Early-Stage Investigator Training Program” — Designed for NIH KL2 Program scholars in health sciences, this program offers coursework, mentored research, workshops, and career development, culminating with a leadership philosophy statement and an action plan. The program starts this spring.
- "Enhancing Skills for Clinical and Translational Research" — This annual program, starting in July, focuses on clinical and translational research skills development through pilot funding and support services, including areas like Team Science and Implementation Science.
- "Integrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging in Research" — Focuses on enhancing research design to incorporate diverse perspectives and accessibility, offering resources and events to advance DEIAB-related research areas.
Leadership and Service:
- "Building Inclusive Campus Environments: Leadership for Bias Response”: Prepares participants to support individuals involved in bias reporting. This includes learning about policies, employing trauma-informed practices, and handling difficult conversations. It targets academic unit heads and faculty, launching in August 2024.
- "Penn State Emerging Academic Leaders (PSEAL)": A program for faculty interested in developing their leadership skills, combining seminars, mentorship, and self-directed learning. Applications are open through March 15 for participation in the Fall 2024 course.
