UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s 18th annual De Jong Lecture in Social Demography, “Reflections on Necessary, Next Generation Population & Environment Research Agendas,” will be presented by Sara Curran on Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the HUB Robeson Center room 233 B and virtually.
Curran is a professor of sociology and of public policy and governance at the University of Washington, where she also directs the Center for Studies in Demography & Ecology. She is an expert in field human populations and the environment.
The lecture will focus on the pivotal role of demography in ongoing research efforts and how it can shape environment and climate policies and programs. Curran will discuss the work with Aubrey Dorélien, associate professor at the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Montana, and Emily Pakhtigian, assistant professor of public policy at Penn State.
This event is free and open to everyone; however, registration is required to participate. The lecture will be recorded and available to registered participants.

De Jong Lectureship in Social Demography Endowment, administered jointly and supplemented by the Department of Sociology and Criminology and the Population Research Institute at Penn State, part of the Social Science Research Institute.
