Institutes of Energy and the Environment names new managing director

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Daniel Heckman will be joining the Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE) in the role of managing director. His start date is scheduled to be May 23.

“I am excited to get the chance to work for an institute that has such broad impacts on our individual lives and future,” Heckman said. “Professionally, this position allows me to continue to grow, while utilizing the skills I have developed over my career.”

Heckman has been at Penn State for 20 years, growing a strong background in finance, accounting and operations. In his most recent role, he was the director of finance for Outreach and Online Education. During his career at Penn State, Heckman has worked on academic, administrative and research-related activities, helping to streamline processes and improve efficiencies. He has also provided leadership, guidance and training for multiple University-wide systems implementations.

“I am very pleased that Dan Heckman will be bringing his skills, experience and leadership to IEE as our next managing director,” said Tom Richard, IEE director. “Dan is well positioned to help IEE expand and achieve the next level of interdisciplinary excellence and societal impact.”

At Penn State, Heckman has worked in several units across the University, including the Office of Sponsored Programs, Central Finance and Business and the Corporate Controller’s Office, where he supported the College of Arts and Architecture, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and Outreach and Online Education. Prior to joining Penn State, Heckman worked for Bucknell University and Corvette America.
