UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Asher Rosinger, assistant professor of biobehavioral health and Ann Atherton Hertzler Early Career Professor in Global Health, is a recipient of the 2022 Michael A. Little Early Career Award from the Human Biology Association.
The Michael A. Little Early Career Award recognizes a member of the association in the early years of their career for a significant contribution to the field of human biology and the promise of future significant contributions. The Human Biology Association is a nonprofit scientific organization that supports and disseminates research and teaching on human biological variation in evolutionary, social, historical and environmental contexts.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive this award and be recognized for my research. The Human Biology Association was the first academic organization where I felt I found a true intellectual home,” Rosinger said.
Rosinger studies the various strategies humans use to meet their water needs across diverse environments, and the implications of those strategies for health and human biology.
“It’s been tremendous to see the growth of interest in water insecurity and human biology-related research over the last few years. I hope my work will inspire the next generation of human biologists and biological anthropologists to incorporate interdisciplinary methods and frameworks, as these cross-cutting approaches are critical to understanding the pathways through which experiences with water affect human biology from early life through old age.”
Rosinger joined the Department of Biobehavioral Health at Penn State in 2017. Prior to his appointment, he completed a fellowship as an epidemic intelligence service officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He earned his doctorate in anthropology and master’s in public health from the University of Georgia.
