Much discussion of how to ensure the gains of moving to a low-carbon economy is spread evenly across society. Many technologies (heat pumps, EVs, smart appliances) that are required of households for this low-carbon economy needs to be purchased on credit. This presentation will discuss a analyses on expansion of household credit and purchases of new durable goods, with a focus on low-income and minority communities.


Speaker Bio: Ian Lange is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Colorado School of Mines , research fellow in the CESifo Energy and Climate Economics Research Network, faculty fellow at the Payne Institute, and Director of the Mineral and Energy Economics graduate program. His work focuses on empirical energy and environmental economics and policy issues related to coal, electricity and oil and natural gas. From December 2019 to April 2021 he served as a Senior Economist on the Council of Economic Advisors. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Washington in 2005.
